Why Does Outlook Closes When I Minimize It?

When you launch the outlook app on windows Pc, you will see the outlook icon in the taskbar. This icon will stay in there until you won’t close the program. Whereas, Sometimes the outlook icon will disappear from the program once you minimize the app.

So it looks like your computer is closing the outlook app when minimizing but it’s not true at all. it is just a misconception or myth.

Outlook is still running in the background of computer, it is just hidden from bottom taskbar tray. If you will open the task manager on your computer. you will see the outlook application running on your computer.

So the questions raises, why does my outlook close when it minimize it? and how do I stop outlook getting closed when minimized?

Why does my Outlook closes when I minimize it? 

As I have earlier said, When you minimize the outlook app, it won’t get closed. Just the icon gets disappeared from the taskbar tray. Meanwhile, if you will click on the show hidden icons button in the taskbar. you will see your outlook icon there.

Generally, that happens when you have enabled the hide when minimized option.

How Do I Stop Outlook Getting Closed When Minimized/Closed? 

If you are currently dealing with the outlook getting closed when minimized option. you can fix that by disabling hide when minimized feature.

  1. Click on the Start button.
  2. Go to the All Apps/ All programs.
  3. Click on the Microsoft Office >> now press the Microsoft Outlook .
  4. Click on the Hidden icon button available at the right side of the Taskbar.

  6. Uncheck hide when minimized option. hide when minimized

Finally, you will start seeing the outlook icon in the main taskbar. now if you will minimize the outlook. it won’t disappear from the outlook anymore.

How To Keep Outlook Open When Closed?

If you don’t want outlook to get closed on one click, you have to install third party ad-on called KuTools. Once you will add this tool in outlook. you need to follow the steps given below.

  1. Open the outlook application.
  2. Press the Kutools from menu.
  3. Now click on the Close to minimize.

Caution-  Kutools is a third party premium adon tool. We encourage you to install it on your device. However, If you really want to use it on your device, do it at your own responsibility.

How to minimize from the system tray? 

If you want to hide the outlook app from the system tray when minimizing. you need to enable the hide when minimized feature. Here are the steps to do that.

  • Open the outlook application on your computer.
  • Click on the show hidden icon button.
  • Right click on the outlook icon.
  • Now check the hide when minimized.

Why is my outlook is visible in the system tray after enabling the Hide when minimized option?

It seems like, you have pinned the outlook program in the system tray, that’s why it won’t disappear from there. So you need to unpin the program using the following guide.

  1. Right click on the outlook icon available in the system tray.
  2. Click on the Unpin from taskbar option.

Once, the taskbar is unpinned, you need to open the outlook program and enable the hide when minimize feature. It will disappear from your system tray now.

Conclusion- 

The outlook closes when minimize it problem appears because of the hide when minimized feature in the windows computer. So if you will disable that, it will start appearing in the system tray when minimized.
