The Smtp servers are generally responsible for outgoing tasks on the email. When you send an email through your account, the SMTP server will handle the message delivery process.
Suppose you are using the webmail version. The SMTP servers will be automatically configured on your account. So you don’t have to do anything on your account.
However, If you are going to set up the yahoo account on Outlook or any third-party mail application, you must have to configure the SMTP servers properly. Otherwise, the mail application will keep showing the “Yahoo SMTP Server Not Working” error.
Why is my Yahoo SMTP server not working?
Usually, the SMTP.Yahoo.Com server stops working because of the incorrect port number, address or encryption type. Besides this, SMTP servers might sometimes stop working for the following reasons.
- The Username Or Password has been changed on the yahoo account.
- Antivirus or Firewall is blocking the Outgoing servers and ports.
- Proxy/VPNs are running on your device.
- Application-related problem.
How To Fix Yahoo SMTP Server Not Working On Outlook?
If you are currently unable to send the emails from your yahoo account because of the SMTP not responding error. You should make the following changes to the Yahoo account or outlook application.
Update the Password –
If you have recently changed the password of your Yahoo account password but didn’t update it on the outlook app. It will no longer be able to sync with the yahoo servers.
At such point, you will start getting the smtp.yahoo.com not responding error, and it will keep asking you to enter the password.
- Open the Outlook app.
- Click on the Files.
- Press the Account Setup.
- Select the Yahoo account and click on the edit button.
- Enter the new password in the password section.
- Click on the Next button.
- Now click on the finish button.
Check The SMTP Settings-
If you didn’t change the password, but still, smtp.yahoo.com servers are not responding on the Outlook app., you should go back to the account settings and check the SMTP server settings. Make sure that they are matching to the following one.
Outgoing server address – smtp.mail.yahoo.com
Port no-465 or 25
Encryption type- Yes.

- Open the browser.

- Press the sign-in button.

- Go to Account security.
- Now sign into the yahoo account once again.
- After signing into the yahoo account, you need to click on the generate app password.
Once you get the app password, you need to configure your Yahoo account on the outlook application via that password.
Disable The Antivirus-
Sometimes, SMTP.yahoo.com does not respond because of the antivirus problem. If the antivirus is blocking the outlook application, you will get the send & receive errors in Outlook. So you need to unblock the outlook application from the settings.
- Open the Antivirus.
- Click on the settings.
- Now click on the blocked antivirus.
- Now select the outlook application and click on the unblock button.
Configure The Outbound Rule On Firewall –
When Firewall is blocking the outgoing (SMTP) servers, you won’t be able to send the emails from the Outlook application. In such cases, you must set up the outbound rule to configure the account.
- Open the Control Panel.
- Go to the windows defender firewall.
- Press the advanced settings option.
- Now click on the outbound rule.
- Click on the new rule.
- Now select the Port option.
- Enter port no- 465 and click on the Next button.
- Now select Allow the connection option and click on the Next button.
- Now select all options and click on the next option.
- Give a name to the outbound rule and click on the Finish button.
Reconfigure The Account using the automatic settings –
If you have already tried all these options, but yahoo SMTP is not working on the outlook app, you need to check the outgoing settings.
- Open the Outlook application.
- Go to the account setup.
- Select the yahoo account.
- Press the delete account option.
- Now click on add button.
- Enter the name, email address & password.
- Click on the Next button.
