Check the signal quality- 

When your Netgear router drops the internet connection frequently on your devices, you need to check the signal quality. Most probably, you are getting weak signals on your device, and that’s why it is disconnecting from the router.

A normal Netgear router model can broadcast the signals within 10 meters of range. If you keep your device within the 6-meter range, you will get a good signal; then, the quality will drop. Due to this, you may face the problem of frequent disconnects.

Apart from this, some other objects may be responsible for low signal quality. Some of them are listed below.

  • The wide wall between the router and the device.
  • Some metal objects are blocking the signals.
  • The router antenna is broken or not incorrect position.

Use the 2.4 GHz Network – 

Sometimes, devices keep losing the wifi signals on the 5Ghz network. That happens because the range of the 5ghz network is lower than the 2.4 GHz network. So whenever your devices are losing the internet connection from the Netgear router, you need to connect it with the 2.4 GHz. Now check the internet, and it should be working fine.

The router is overheating – 

It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes the Netgear router loses the wifi connection because of the overheating problem. Do not turn off the router when your router is in the summer season, and it might get overheated. Due to this, it may stop broadcasting the signals or cause frequent disconnection issues.

Get rid of that problem; first, you need to power off the Netgear router for 20-25 minutes. Now turn on the router. To prevent the router from overheating, you should install your router in some such place where there is no excessive heat and proper air ventilation.

Disable The VPN & Proxy Apps- 

When using the VPN or Proxy application on your device, they might cause frequent disconnection problems on your device. That’s all because these application uses third-party DNS servers to hide your identity. 

So you should disable the proxy on your Netgear account and then retry to join the wireless network, and it should work fine for you now. 

Update the router firmware- 

Sometimes, the Netgear router is disconnecting frequently because of the firmware problem. When the firmware is too old, some internal files might get corrupted. Due to this, a router might stop broadcasting the signals.  

  • Open The Router Admin Panel By Using the 192.168.1.1 in the browser.  
  • Sign in to the Netgear router admin panel
  • Click on the advanced tab,
  • Go to the Maintenance tab. 
  • Click on the firmware upgrade
  • Now click on the check for Update button. 
  • If you find any updates, you need to click on the Download & Install button. 

Reset The Router- 

If you have tried the above instructions, your Netgear router still keeps disconnecting frequently. You should reset the router to the factory settings. You need to press and hold the reset button on your Netgear wifi router for a minute. Now release it.  

  • Connect the computer To the Netgear router. 
  • Open The browser and go to the routerlogin.net
  • Sign in to the router admin panel
  • Click on the maintenance tab. 
  • Press the Back up settings option. 
  • You need to click on the Revert to the factory settings option. 
  • Finally, press the restore button.
