This often happens when the browser’s cookies are getting corrupted or the browser is too old. But the good thing is that this problem is fixable from the user’s side; you will not need to take help from the Gmail support team for that.

Why Is My Gmail showing a temporary error 500? 

When Gmail doesn’t load on google chrome or other browser and keeps showing the error code 500, there can be a few reasons behind it.

Internet connection- When the Internet speed on the computer is super slow, it may be unable to load your mailbox fully. You need to inspect the internet speed.

Browser Extensions or plugins are blocking the resources- If you are using any extensions, which Gmail does not support. They can stop the JavaScript and other resources.

Browser is outdated- When a browser is outdated, It won’t be able to connect to Gmail. At such a point, Gmail might show an error code 500 on the computer.

How do I fix Gmail temporary error code 500 on the computer? 

Now we know the reasons why my Gmail showed a temporary error of 500? So now it’s time to fix it by using the instructions given below. 

 Clear the cookies and cache- 

When Gmail is unable to load the mailbox, you need to current the cookies and cache from the browser and then refresh the page. 

For Chrome users-

Clear cookies

  1. Open the Chrome browser
  2. Click on the menu and then click on the settings
  3. Here, you need to click on the privacy and security option. 
  4. Press the Clear browsing data option. 
  5. Select all browsing data options and then click on the clear data button. 

For Microsoft Edge browsers-

  1. Let’s open the edge browser and go to the settings
  2. Click on the cookies and site permissions
  3. Here, you need to click on the manage and delete cookies and site data option. 
  4. Now click on the see all cookies option and then click on the Remove all button. 

For Firefox browsers-

  1. Open Firefox and go to the settings
  2. Under the privacy and security section, click on the clear cookies and site data option. 
  3. Press the manage data button. 
  4. Finally, click on the remove all shown button and then click on the ok button. 

Update the browser- 

Sometimes, users are getting Gmail temporary error code 500 due to outdated browsers. So you should update the browser and refresh the Gmail web page again. 

For Chrome browser- 

  1. Open the Chrome browser 
  2. go to the chrome://settings/help
  3. If there is any update available for the browser, then it will automatically do that. 

For Mozilla Firefox browser-

  2. Click on the menu button and then click on the help button. 
  3. Here you need to click on the about option. 
  4. Finally, the firefox browser will start looking for the update. If it finds any update, it will update itself. 

Update Microsoft edge – 

If you can’t log into the Gmail account on Microsoft Edge browser, keep getting the Gmail temporary error code 500. You should update the browser. update the edge browser

  1. Open the Microsoft Edge browser. 
  2. Click on the menu button and then go to the help and feedback option. 
  3. Now click on the about Microsoft edge option. 

If there is any update pending, the edge browser will update itself. 

Reset the browser- 

Please factory reset the browser when you cannot access the Gmail account due to the temporary error. Now retry to re-access Gmail. I am hoping that your browser will start working fine. 

Switch to another browser- 

Let’s try to access Gmail through another browser. Now check if it is loading Gmail properly or not? 

If Gmail is working fine there. In such a case, you need to uninstall the regular browser and then install its latest version.

Remove the third-party extensions-

Check the internet connection-
