Brother printer keeps jaming the paper?

Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing an issue with my Brother printer (Model: MFC-L2740DW). The printer constantly jams when printing double-sided on card stock, although normal paper works fine. I’ve already tried setting the media type to "thicker" paper, but it still jams during duplex printing. Additionally, when I remove the paper from the back tray, the tray often rips the paper.
Has anyone experienced this problem or found any solutions? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Usually, brother printer keeps jamming paper because of the incorrect paper type or tray size issue. So first of all, you should check the paper size and type.

For better understanding I have shared the detailed  list of troubleshooting steps. You can apply it on your device. It will resolve the issue.

  1. One of the most common causes of paper jams is the type and quality of the paper you're using. Always make sure you are using paper that meets the printer’s specifications in terms of weight, size, and type. Paper that is too thick, too thin, or has rough edges can often cause jams. Avoid using curled or damaged paper, as it can obstruct the paper path or cause the rollers to slip.
  2. Improper paper loading is another common reason for paper jams. Ensure that the paper is stacked correctly in the tray and that the paper guides are snug but not too tight. Overloading the paper tray can also lead to misfeeds or jams. Make sure you don’t exceed the recommended paper capacity.
  3. Dust and debris can accumulate inside the printer over time, causing the rollers to lose grip and the paper to misfeed or jam. Use a soft, lint-free cloth and compressed air to clean the interior of the printer, particularly around the paper feed rollers and the paper path. Regular cleaning helps prevent paper jams and improves print quality.
  4. Over time, parts like the feed rollers, fuser, or drum unit may become worn or damaged. Inspect these components, as a worn-out roller can struggle to grip the paper properly, causing repeated jams. If any parts appear to be worn or damaged, consider replacing them.
  5. Ensure your printer’s settings are properly configured for the type of paper you're using. Some printers may have a setting for thicker paper or different media types that can help reduce jams. Also, check if your printer’s firmware is up to date, as updates can resolve software-related printing issues.

If you've tried these steps and the problem persists, it might be time to contact Brother’s customer support or consult a professional technician to address any internal mechanical issues.
